The beginning of this week I felt defeat for the first time in a while. I was working with a young horse that had come here fearful of everything and after working with him for a couple weeks, he made lots of progress and begun to trust. However, for a few days he began to act up-taking off again with me in the arena and being afraid of the things which he was immuned too for the past two weeks. I didn’t think much of it and thought it was a couple of bad days. But on monday, I felt as though the past two weeks of progress was wiped away as he lost it. After two times being thrown off and not even being able to sit back on him, I stood looking at this poor, fearful animal; defeated. I was tired, discourgaed and questioning as to why he fell back after all the progess. I walked away and felt the weight of defeat upon my shoulders.
Through those moments of feeling defeat, the Lord spoke life back into my heavy Spirit, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?…No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Romans 8:35-37
It is so easy for us to feel the weight of defeat. To become discouraged, hopeless and doubtful as we lost sight of the vision the Lord had once given us as we are faced with opposition, challenges and feelings that begin to weigh us down. As we continue to focus on that which is telling us that we failed, that we aren’t good enough, that we made the mistakes-we begin to allow our mind to control us rather than the truth. This all comes back to identity. For when we know who we are, children of the Living God-then we no longer have to dwell in defeat, rather sing “But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”1 Corinthians 15:57
For Jesus has declared, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
No matter what we may be facing, stand in faith. “For we live by faith not by sight” 2 Corinthians 5:7 We do not live by what we see or how we feel but by who we know Our God is. For “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8. We live by the truth that “because everyone who is a child of God conquers the world. And this is the victory that conquers the world—our faith. So the one who conquers the world is the person who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” 1 John 5:4-5
Through this week the Lord has been teaching me about living victoriously and not allowing the devil to get a foothold in my life through my thoughts and even my understanding. For when we understand who we are in Christ Jesus, “For you are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” Galatians 3:26-27 and gain a deeper revelation of who God is, we will be able to live as royalty robed in His righteousness rather than running to put the rags which Jesus died for us to remove; back on. We are to live aware of who our God is and how great He is. For His grace covers us and defeat trickles it way in when we begin to lose sight that it is not out of our own strength but His, “And he said to me, My grace is sufficient for you: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest on me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
I am overwhelmed as to think that “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1 and that I am able to fix my eyes on Jesus that author and perfector of my faith and place my hope in Him, realizing that He died and rose again victoriously so I could live through His victory. I no longer have to allow the world to weigh me down or discouragment and fear of failure to stop me from living for Christ for I trust that He has gone before me to prepare the way.
Just as the apostles and disciples of Jesus stood in great faith-withstanding imprisionments, torture, persecution and judgment from others, they perserved. They held onto the Word of Truth and acknowledged God higher than man. They abided in Jesus and stuck to the vision God had given them no matter the cost. They moved past the fear of the world and never allowed fear of being defeated stop them from living victoriously for Christ. Watch the thoughts you think about yourself, the words you say and the way you live-begin to live as children of God in all honour, purity, gentleness and love. For how we live is through what we believe. When we are faced with opposition, our beliefs are either what holds us together or allows us to crumble. God is for you and loves you-remain fixed on Him and His voice.
I pray that the Lord brings you a revealtion of who you are in Him and that your identity is restored in the name of Jesus. That your love for Him remains steadfast and your faith unshakable. For we must have it in our hearts to not give up-no matter what comes against us. For to be victorious we must seek the face of God and seek His Truth. We must strengthen our faith by firmly rooting ourselves in Jesus and remaining faithful to He who is always faithful.
Be reminded that you are not defeated. Do not be discouraged but seek the Lord. Even if you feel as though you are falling, jump towards the Lord not further away. For He see’s us as His dearly beloveds and I believe He longs for us to seek revealtion on who we are in Jesus and”Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh” Romans 13:14.
Declare over yourself victory by the blood of Jesus. For He is your King as He has raised you to sit in the heavenly places with Him. He has set you apart and you are no longer held down by ways of the flesh but you are His and are able to live freely as a child of God rather than a slave to your flesh. “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world” 1 John 4:4
May today you rejoice over the victory Christ died and rose again for you to live through. May you look to Him when feelings of defeat and discouragment come, so that He may uphold you and remind you of His Mighty hand upon you!
“We will sing for joy over your victory,
And in the name of our God we will set up our banners.
May the LORD fulfill all your petitions.
Now I know that the LORD saves His anointed;
He will answer him from His holy heaven
With the saving strength of His right hand.
Some boast in chariots and some in horses,
But we will boast in the name of the LORD, our God.
They have bowed down and fallen,
But we have risen and stood upright.”Psalm 20:5-8
