So often we seek to live for feeling and emotion rather than in truth. For we seek to feel something, seek to experience something or see something. We seek to live through our senses than by faith. For when we are focused on feelings, we miss living with purpose and begin to live seeking purpose-finding our value only when we feel we have it rather than living knowing we have value.
Living in faith is not allowing emotions to drive us or steer us away. Such as Peter; when he was walking on water, he stepped out in faith, but quickly he allowed his feelings to pull him away from the truth of what he knew. When being moved by our senses, our flesh is leading us rather than the Spirit. For with our senses comes forth fear, judgment, insecurrities and doubts-which are the very things that we are to put off when taking off our old man and clothing ourselves in the Lord Jesus Christ.
“For we walk by faith not by sight” 2 Corinthians 5:7
Also when we live by senses rather than truth; we are quickly pulled away from that which is good by our own selves. For we will feel inadequate or unworthy to recieve such amazing promises and love from our Savior. And that’s the very thing, although we do not deserve all that Jesus has to offer us,it is through the grace of God that we are able to partake in His inheritance as heirs rather than servants; as children rather than orphans. It is by grace that we are able to live freely with Jesus through our faith. We don’t always need to seek understanding to believe. All we must do is believe in God, move past our own self and allow Him to move and do His great and mighty ways in us. For it is not about us but about His will being done.
When Peter denied Jesus three times, he allowed his shame and guilt to pull him away from the truth and return to the very thing that Jesus had taken him from, fishing. He decided to turn back rather than turn to God Almighty. For Jesus took him from an earthly way and brought him into the heavenly Kingdom to be a disciple. When Peter realized that Jesus has been killed, he allowed his emotions to get ahold of him and decided he needed to find value in fleshly desires rather than to remain in the truth that saved him. However Jesus returned to remind them of who they were and the plans He had for them; what He has saved them from in order to prepare them to save others. Redeeming the souls of those who did not know Jesus as Son of God.
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; Ephesians 4:22
Even in our own lives, when we allow our emotions and senses to lead us rather than the truth, we will soon end up back to where we began; living in our old ways, caught up in the same lies we once believed about ourselves and the world. It is easy to get caught up in the ways of the world if we are not living walking in the Spirit of truth. Be reminded that walking in obedience to Jesus is walking in faith not by sight. For our senses will lead us away in disobedience. Take a moment today to re-ground yourself in the Truth; reminding yourself that you live by faith in truth, not by senses trusting in yourself. We don’t need to rely of feelings to know God is with us, but to stand on His Truth that He will never leave or forsake us. To not live regards to our human feelings but that which we know to be true substance we can stand on firmly; the word of God.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12:1-3
Even in moments where your hope seems darkened and the light seems small, be reminded that you are a child of God Almighty. That although we face moments in this world that are not easy, we have a hope that is to remind us of that which awaits us. May you “Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. “Make level paths for your feet,“ so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed. Hebrews 12:12-13
When facing moments of doubts, questions and hopelessness; looking to Peter as an example, don’t turn back but turn towards God in faith. Seeking His word, worshipping Him and allowing what you don’t see; give Him an opportunity to reveal to you what He does. For we don’t live looking for that which is temporary but that which is eternal “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18
For we have heard the word of the Lord, now is the time to act on it and stand upon it, “Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude.” Colossians 2:6-7
Don’t allow the enemy to get a foothold on you by condeming you. Be reminded that in Christ Jesus there is no condemnation but freedom. When you feel discouraged as though you are unworthy of His forgivness, stand in truth not feelings. For the truth will always lead us towards repentance and forgivness, while our senses will lead us towards self-condemnation and guilt. You are a beloved child of God, remain in your identity!!
