Lately I have been trying to figure out God’s will for my life. What He wants me to do, When He wants me to do it and Where He wants me to do it. I have been worried trying to make sure that I don’t miss the mark, that I don’t mess things up and choose the wrong thing. Worried as to why I don’t feel a direct call to a specific place or school, where the past couple days the Lord has brought revelation upon His Will to me. That as long as He is always plan A, and we abide in His ways then we will be in His will. There will be times we have a clear and direct call such as Jonah going to Ninevah, but then their will be times when we will be able to choose our own way, because we are abiding in God’s ways.
Someone gave me a picture of Our Father handing me a bunch of lolipops, saying that I could choose whichever one I wanted. Each one was what I desired to do, and none would be a bad choice, but I just had to choose. And in whatever one I choose, to live glorifying Him.
I have come to see that I was seeking so much personal direction that I lost sight of God’s overall picture. That He simply wants me to do all things in the name of Jesus. That here and now is His will. His will isn’t necessairly in the future but the present. What I do here and now prepares the way for the future. But if I am so concerned abou the future and His will to come, then I am missing the point of fulfilling His will right where He has me, with who is in my life and what I am already doing.
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17
Pastor Steven Furtick says “When we come to know God’s ways, then we will know His will. That is is more important as to How we live our lives, Why we’re doing it, and Who we are/Who we’re impacting through our lives, much more than What, When and Where.
Being a good steward of what we have already been given, and obey the peices of His will He has revealed to us. For when we are seeking His ways above our own, and in already abiding in Him-then His will, will be working and being perfected through us.
Remember that He knows how to direct you, He knows how to guide you and He knows your hearts desires for He has placed them their and cultivated them for you to pursue and Him fulfill through you. Focus more on how you are living here and now more than when it’s going to happen. For so often we are focused on changing when something happens, we are always waiting for an event or circumstance in which we will be able to change our life styles, our ways and our habits, rather than allowing God to transform us here and now-through the little things, the everyday situations we face so that He can use us for greater things. For when we are fully yeilded to Him here and now, He can entrust us with more.
When Moses saw the burning bush, he wasn’t seeking a sign from the Lord but rather doing what he was called to do-tend sheep. It was through his obedience with the life he was given, that God met Him in great ways to use Him for greater things. For more of us so egardly try to discover Gods will rather than actually do His will. He wants to build in us a passion right now that will be steadfast, not putting in our effort to plan for the future which kills our passion for the moment we are in. When we continue to seek God’s will for our self, we miss that His will is for the world, for His body. He desires us to come into unity through His Spirit to be of one mind, abiding in His ways so that His will may be complete through us.
May our hearts be dependant upon God, allowing all we do and choose be because of our love for God. So that in all we do, whether word or deed, we do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ giving thanks to the Father. For God’s will is not a destination but a person. It is not complicated, it is simply allowing Jesus to be glorified through you in the every day things; doing the dishes, serving at your job, loving your family. To live as God’s people in all we do.
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9
God’s will is for you to love Him, to choose Him in all you do and abide in His ways so that Jesus may be glorified through who you are rather than what you are striving to accomplish and focusing so much on yourself that you miss those around you whom He wants you to reach.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
Ask yourself, what is your hearts motive? Are you seeking God’s heart through all you do? To know Him and know His ways? or are you seeking His will so that you may gain direction for your own benefit, that once you discover a way, you abandon Him to go on yourself? For God’s will is simply abiding in His ways faithfully, obediently and humbly walking with Him through everyday life-living honourably, living seeking His heart in all things and living to glorify Jesus through who we are, in what we do, where we are right now.
