the importance of good company

There is something empowering when we are with those who want the same things in life. When we are with those who encourage us, grow us and pour into our lives. We will begin to grow in; love, acceptance, finding out identity and the power of Christ. I have come to see the importance in fellowship with others, and what being with those who are not pursing what you are can influence you. For who you are surrounding yourself will be those, whose characteristics we bear.

For everything is better when working together with those who are working towards the same thing. The Lord did not create us to be alone, He created us for community, to work together as a body, not individual parts. He longs for us to learn, in maturity, how to work with eachother to be empowered men and women, working in harmony to build His Kingdom. For He has given each of us, such beautiful gifts, talents and characteristics. He has made us each uniquely so that we may invest in one another, strengthen our giftings and being good stewards of what has been entrusted in us, to freely give to others. For our God is a God of abundance, He blesses the work of those who are earnestly build His Kingdom and does not simply add but multiplys our deeds expoentially. 403101_298633360194129_1123980462_n

Looking at Acts 2, when the Holy Spirit came upon those at Pentacost, they came together as a body and “Spent their time learning the apostles’ teaching, sharing, breaking bread, and praying. The apostles were doing many miracles and sign and everyone felt great respect for God. All the believers were together and shared everything. They would sell their land and the things they owned and then divide the money and give it to anyone who needed it. The believers met together in the Temple every day. They ate together in their homes, happy to share their good with joyful hearts. They praised God and were liked by all people. Everday the Lord added those who were being saved to the group of believers” Acts 2:42-47

When we come together to bring glory to God, He does amazing and great things through those working in community. For it is those we are around who are able to disciple us, invest in us, rebuke and discipline us but also share love and the joy of fellowship- being surrounded by like minded people who build us up and add to our life. For to impact the world, one person can make a difference but a group of like minded people can make change. May we rise up as a generation of followers-men and women empowered by the fullness of the Holy Spirit. Begin to invest in others, to disciple a few and influence many. For when those empowered by the Holy Spirit, come together, the Lord does powerful and great things for His Kingdom to be seen and witnessed.

Even if you are not a follower of Christ, may you surround yourself with those who will pour into you positivley. For those who are not what you need, will only take from your life, not add to it. Be with people who are moving the same way you are, who can encourage and invest into you to reach the greatest you, you are able to become.

However with this being said, we are still not to neglect those who need help. For we are to reach out and share the love of Christ with those who are desperate for it. It is however vital that we have those in our lives that can pour into us when we are pouring into others. For when we are continually pouring into those who do not pour back into us, we run the risk of becoming dry, bitter and lacking the goodness of a community filled with Gods love. We all need love and encouragment-seek those who need that, but surround yourself with those who can give you that as well.

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another…”Hebrews 10:24-25
