So often it are the little things that go unnoticed that continue to gather and collect more which grow into something that we would have never expected to be there. Pride is a trait in which if we do not address and continually kill from growing within ourselves, it can slowly accumulate feelings, thoughts, moments and emotions to grow in us a bitter root. Pride is so easily grown because as humans we are continually striving for more-which do not get me wrong, is not a bad things but we must continually check our motives and thoughts into why we are doing such things. Is it for others to see how much we know? is it because we want to be honoured and praised for it? Is it because we ourselves think we are worthy of such things? or is it because we simply desire to help others whether seen or not? is it because we love the Lord and desire Him to recieve glory for our simple deeds?
“Pride goes before destruction,
a haughty spirit before a fall.” Proverbs 16:18
It is important that as servants we humble ourselves under the Lord’s mighty hand-as in Luke when Jesus talks about the banquet
“When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table, he told them this parable: “When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.” Luke 14:8-11
We must continually allow the Holy Spirit to purify us, to remove and cut off any fruit that will spoil the rest of the fruit we are growing. For pride-if we do not see it when it is growing, can slowly spoil and rotten the rest of the fruit around it. May we pray for discernment and insight that the Lord would reveal to us any areas in our life that we need to lay down at His feel and allow Him to purify us – only allowing His righteous and holy fruit to be growing within us.
May we be reminded that by being humble we recongnize all of who we are comes from the Lord and without Him-we would be nothing. It is realizing each person, whether follower or not, are loved by God. It is coming to a point where we acknowledge the Holy Spirit and pray that His work would be done within us-seeking first for the Kingdom of God so that we may be pure from the insight out, only being filled with the fullness of the Holy Spirit and allowing our flesh to slowly be put to death so that nothing would stand before us and the Lord.
“Oh Heavenly Father, I pray that you may continue to purify me from the insight out. that my flesh may be put to death and I would be lead only by the truth of your Holy Spirit. I ask that any root that is growing within me that is not of you or your Kingdom, would be revealed and cut off so that I may be an oak of righteousness for you. for without you oh Lord I am nothing, may I be purified by you and never let pride begin to grow-for you are the source of all that I am being empowered by. may you be glorified through my life. Amen,”
“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31
