“He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Luke 10:2
In the Jewish Culture the harvest it a time of celebrations, it is a time after seeds have been planted, watered, grown and are in season to be gathered.
Are you a harvester? have you planted in others seeds that will grow? what have you invested in others? have you invested hope?love? what are you harvesting in yourself? is it fruits evident of the Spirit?
If people we’re to describe you, would they name off fruits of the Spirit ?
“but the Spirit produces the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control” Galations 5:22-23
as followers of Christ “you should produce much fruit and show that you are my follower, which brings glory to my Father”John 15:8
“you did not choose me; i chose you. and I gave you this work:to go and produce fruit, fruit that will last…” John 15:16
What do you think Jesus meant when He said “the harveset is plentiful?” Was it that He has already planted the seeds of truth in the world through His followers? and had begun to water those seeds through His disciples?
As disciples of the Lord, as Harvesters-is that what we are called to do? not to be concerned with just converting others which will only be planting dull seeds, seeds that won’t recieve the nurture and care they need to grow and strengthen themselves-as we become focused more on numbers then relationships and disciplship. I believe as Harvesters we are called to disciple people-to assist in the Lord’s work within the Church, within the body of believers to reap a harvest of disciples who can also begin to plant their own harvest-a harvest is not just the end of a process, it is a celebration of all the hard work done to come to that point-the work of labourors who have planted, watered, sown and are ready to reap the fruit of their labour.
A Harvest is about relationship, spending time with the very thing in which you are trying to invest in-spending your time, sharing your knowledge and insight, giving all that the Lord has filled you with to water and shower down upon them. It is about allowing the Holy Spirit to grow them through discipleship and seeing the beauty of the Lord grow right before your eyes.
may you never lose sight of the one who has called you to harvest- may you not only half-heartily work but do what you can to create a harvest of righteousness to bring glory to our Lord Jesus Christ.
