where did the love go? where did your love go?
Just like the black eyed peas song “where is the love”, people have lost sight of the true meaning of “love your neighbour as yourself”. We have begun to love our own lives, our own self more than others.
“practice what you preach” but why don’t we? why have we become so comfortable with our lives. we live in a part of the world that although we feel is normal, is actually far from it. more than half the world live in poverty, starvation and horrible conditions. we are blessed beyond belief, and yet we don’t bless others with what we have been so blessed with.God’s greatest commandment is “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and love your neighbour as yourself” (matthew 22:36-40) when loving God truthfully, everything else comes hand in hand and obeying Him is simply because of the love we have for Him. we can’t claim to be His followers if we don’t even follow His commands and by loving others that comes with actually showing love, acting it out. would your neighbours be able to see that you love them? would those around you be able to have a glimpse of Jesus when you walk into the room? how can other’s come to know Christ, if they can’t even feel His love or see Him through the people who claim to follow Him?
“I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.”Mahatma Gandhi
i hope when reading that it hurts, and I hope you see that we have gone so far from the followers Christ had desired us to be. we have chosen ourselves and the world above His promises and new life He has holding out for us to grab. the further we walk from the path Christ has set for us, the wrong perception of Christ we are giving to non-believers.
And when something wrong goes on in the world, we hear of people questioning “where is God in this?” “how could God let this happen?” “why didn’t God save those people?” and we start pointing fingers at God but in reality it’s our faults. We are the ones that didn’t step in to help, we are the ones that spent money on worldly possessions then saving a child dieing from aids. We are the ones that limited God’s saving power through us into their lives. We have to always be reminded that God is good, God is love, our God is the creator of everything, it’s His creations that have turned from Him. Really, He should be the only one questioning us in why we didn’t help them? where were we when that happened? why didn’t we step in to stop it? God has given us everything we need to show love, share love, and live love out. He has placed on the earth everything we needed to survive, yet we have misued it.
“When you get, give. When you learn, teach.” ~ Maya Angelou
we don’t need to travel half way around the world to show love to others, to help those in need. there is need all around us, can you see it? if not, what has blinded you from seeing the desperate need? and the desperate hunger for Jesus? may we practice what we preach, may we live how Jesus lived and calls us to live. Luke 12:44; Matthew. 6:24; Deut. 15:7; Matthew 25:31-46
we have decided to only love those that we are around, those that love us back. our love has gone from unconditional love, to selfish love; from selfless love to really no love. so ask yourself, where has your love gone?
“In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds” James 2:17-18
